Romans 5:6–10 (NASB)
6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
7 For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
When I read this passage of scriptures, it blesses me so very much. Think about verse 6; Christ dies for the ungodly. That’s me. I surely fit that category. Just imagine, with all my faults, failures and mistakes, Christ died for ME.
We read in verse 7 that someone might die for a good man, but me? No way. That’s because many people, me included, think of themselves by what they picture themselves to be in this life. God didn’t care about all the junk that I would do; because Christ died 2,000 years ago before I ever came on the scene.
Now let’s look at verse 8 in the Christian Standard Bible version (CSB). God demonstrated His love towards me.
Romans 5:8 (CSB)
8 But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Who is Paul writing this to and to whom is he talking about?
Romans 1:7 (NASB)
7 to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
I wanted you to see that Paul is writing to all believers. That’s Me! That’s YOU! Why did Christ die for me? I need to know.
Romans 4:25 (NASB)
25 He who was delivered up because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.
Jesus died for MY sins, My mistakes and My deeds, that now I would be ashamed to even speak of them.
He was RAISED for MY justification. The word justification emphasizes Christ’s full payment of the debt for sin which liberates the believer from all divine condemnation.
I know that is a mouthful, but let’s read that again. Jesus was raised from the dead. This emphasizes Christ’s full payment of the debt for sin which liberates ME and YOU from all divine condemnation. Jesus paid the full price so I would be not judged for my sins. I don’t know if most believers really fully grasp that. Jesus, the Son of God, who had done nothing wrong, came to this earth and paid the full price for MY sins. Every one of them. He paid the price to set me free from all the guilt and shame of my past life before I was saved, or born-again.
We, as believers, have so much to be thankful for. So the next time you feel down, depressed or feeling like you are lower than a snake, remind yourself of what God, through Jesus, did for YOU.
Romans 5:9 (NASB)
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
We NOW, because of the price Jesus paid, are declared innocent before our Heavenly Father. Now think about that. If that doesn’t bless you, you better check up on yourself. Yes, that is for every believer. I’m not talking about seeing how much sin a person can do after becoming a Christian, I’m talking about how grateful one should be because of the Great Love the Father God had for each of us.
We should be thankful each and every day for what Jesus HAS done for us. Jesus did it freely. He surrendered His will unto the Father’s will. God Himself Loves YOU, and all of mankind. So much so, that He sent Jesus, and Jesus paid the price to set us free.
1 Peter 1:18–19 (NASB)
18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
KNOWING, not hoping this is the way it is. No; Peter said Knowing that we were REDEEMED. Now we need to know what this word REDEEMED means. (REDEEMED – (3084) is the Greek number in case you want to look it up.) It means to release, to set free by payment of ransom. Did you get that? Jesus’ blood set us FREE from our former way of life. He didn’t just forgive us; He actually set us free from our old nature and the way we used to act.
Now I know that may be hard to accept, but that is what it says. I think too many believers have been robbed by not knowing what God, through Jesus, has done for them.
Go back and read those verses again. Read them slowly and let them soak into your heart. They will bless you and cause you to have a spring in your step. And whatever comes your way, you will know that God loves you so much that He sent Jesus to set you free. You are free! You are free!
You need to speak it out loud, I AM FREE!!!
